I think using IXL.com is a great resource to help the students practice a lot of different math skills. You can first choose the grade level you want to work with and then decide which specific skill/topic you want to have the students practice. Another great aspect from this website is that it tracks each student's progress to ensure that they are completing the assignment as well as to check which skills each student might need more help with.
The smart board is used daily in the classroom and allows the students to interact with the textbook and each other. Arcadmeicskillbuilders is an extremely effective way for the students to practice basic math skills.
I like to find new things all the time. One of my new favorites websites is One True Media www.onetruemedia.com. The students seem to really enjoy it as well. On this site they can create really short videos on almost any topic. The kids like it because they can add graphics and music very easily. Sharon Patterson
I love having games on my choice boards. The interactive games are a great source of practice for the concepts. Students are so used to playing video games that the idea of games to teach mathematical concepts is accepted by the students. Another positive aspect is that they can play the games at an individual pace. The web site "aaamath" offers practice on many eighth grade lessons. My students were working on this today and they were all engrossed in their work.
The 5th grade teachers agree! The kids, especially the boys, are definitely engaged when they are on the computer playing games. Little do they know, they are learning at the same time!!
My best use of technology is to help supplement the content in a more auditory/visual way. I leverage Brainpop to help my students enhance their schema prior to address a new subject in my social studies class. In addition during my current events earlier in the year we were following the Occupy Wall Street protests so I pulled up a webcam that allowed my students to see a live protest during class.
We use technology a lot in our classroom. The students often use arcademic skillbuilders, achieve 3000, IXL, studyisland teacher sites: abcteach.com, a-z reading, discoveryeducation, brainpop, studyjams,
In the 5th Grade, we feel that the use of the SmartBoard has revolutionized the way we teach Math. It has served as a tool to completely engage all students. We have found that the interactive features of the SmartBoard motivate students who would not normally volunteer to "come up to the board". We use the SmartBoard daily to introduce each lesson through websites such as www.studyjams.com and www.brainpop.com. The students also love showing off their multiplication and division skills on www.arcademicskillbuilders.com.
For basic skills practice I like to use arcademic skill builders. I was able to create an account for free and give each student a user name and password. They can log in and it tracks their progress. Students enjoy making smart videos to explain how to solve problems. My 6th grade class is currently creating a wiki and enjoy the ability to chat back and forth with their peers to share ideas.
Technology is constant in my classroom. I love to access the online math book on the Smartboard. This resource is very interactive and it engages the students throughout the lesson. Extra practice and games are used by the students while working on their choice boards, or together as a class for special activities. I often go to NLVM, IXL, and many sites from Dr. Milou's website for activities.
Some of the websites that are useful in our 7th grade math class are: Brainpop, Braining Camp, Illuminations, NLVM, IXL, Study Island and Arcademic Skill Builders to name a few. Students can utilize these sites to see their immediate progress. Students also enjoy creating Smartboard videos to show the what they have learned throughout the chapters.
One great resource and use of technology is a website called MarketWatch.com which I've used in the past and present when teaching about the stock market. It can be privately implemented and restricted to meet the needs of your students. The kids loved "playing" and became captivated in watching the hi's and low's of the market. Some enjoyed it so much that they created their own private games after ours finished.
